A workout for the face — not surgery, not Botox
I’m Natallia, the aesthetician at Skin and Beyond Spa. A microcurrent facial here is a professional treatment: low-level current that tones facial muscles and supports the skin’s own repair. It is not a needle, not a peel, and not a lunchtime bar facial.
Think of skin cells as tiny batteries. When they are charged, they make collagen and elastin more readily. Professional microcurrent is often described as a cell charger — it copies the body’s own signals and can raise ATP, the energy those cells use to rebuild. That is why texture and density can look better after a series, not only a temporary “pump.”
The second job is muscle. We have dozens of facial muscles holding the skin. Some go slack (jawline, jowls, hooded lids). Some stay too tight (frown lines). I place the electrodes for your face that day: lift where it is lax, ease where it is clenched. That dual work — recharge plus re-education — is why people call this a non-surgical lift. I do not sell a gadget. I treat you in the room.
Professional current vs a home wand
At-home devices (the ones often branded as NuFACE) use a milder current. They can feel pleasant. They are not the same machine I use in the cabinet, and they are not a substitute for a series with someone who knows facial anatomy.
In this room the current is stronger, the waveform is professional, and the placement is mine — cheekbones, jowls, brow, eyes — not a five-minute pass you guess from a video. That is the difference you are booking.
After a kickstart series, some clients use a home wand between visits as light maintenance. I will say so honestly if it fits. I will not send you out to buy a device instead of booking the treatment.
Series, then maintenance
Muscle memory and ATP build with repetition — the same logic as training, moved from our October guide onto this page.
- Kickstart: 6–10 visits. Usually 1–2 times per week. This is the phase that builds the lift and fills the cells with energy. One session can look fresher; a series is what lasts.
- Maintenance: every 4–8 weeks. After the first course, most clients keep the contour with one visit in that window. Frequency follows your face, calendar, and budget — I will say so plainly.
If you only want a one-off before an event, we can still book it. I will tell you what a single 45-minute session can and cannot do.
Who it’s for — and who must skip
Book this if you want a firmer jawline, less puffiness, a more open eye area, or a non-surgical lift without downtime. It suits Gold Coast and downtown clients who already like facials and want dedicated muscle work — not a full cleanse-and-mask menu in the same hour.
Choose a full facial instead if you need extractions, a peel, or a customized 90-minute visit where microcurrent is only one modality. Start with facials in Chicago or the Advanced Customized Facial ($295). Prices: price menu.
Do not book microcurrent if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronics, epilepsy, pregnancy, or metal in the treatment zone (including certain implants or threads). After recent injectables, wait the interval your injector gave you — tell me the date before we start. This is not a medical spa procedure; when in doubt, ask your physician first.
Standalone $250 vs a customized facial
This page is the Signature Treatment: $250, 45 minutes of focused microcurrent. It is not an eighth SKU on the facials list. You are here for the lift.
The Advanced Customized Facial is $295 / 90 min. Microcurrent can appear there as one modality among steam, cleanse, massage, and mask — not the full dedicated session.
Facial massage is a different booking: hands-on massage, not this money page. If you want the professional current, book Microcurrent here.
Eyes, brows, and the “open” look
Hooded lids and a tired eye area are a common reason people search for a microcurrent eye treatment. I work that zone in the same $250 visit — small electrodes, careful placement, no separate page or add-on fee. It is part of sculpting the upper face, not a 15-minute express.
What to expect on your visit
Assessment
I look at muscle tone, puffiness, and your goals that day. Tell me about implants, pregnancy, injectables, and anything electrical you wear. We skip the treatment if it is not safe.
Treatment
Forty-five minutes. A slight tingle is common; pain is not the point. You stay clothed from the neck down. No needles, no numbing, no recovery chair.
Aftercare
Zero downtime — Gold Coast, Mag Mile, back to your day. Makeup is fine. I will not push a retail wand at checkout. Hydrate; keep the next visits if we started a series.
FAQ
- Microcurrent facial vs a regular facial vs NuFACE at home?
- A regular facial is cleanse, exfoliate, mask — skin, not muscle training. This visit is dedicated professional current. A home wand is milder maintenance, not the cabinet treatment I do at 21 W Elm.
- How much is a microcurrent facial in Chicago?
- $250 at Skin and Beyond Spa, Gold Coast. Flat price — no surprise upcharge at checkout. See the price menu for other treatments.
- How long is the appointment?
- 45 minutes, as listed for Microcurrent on Vagaro. That is the dedicated session — not the 90-minute customized facial.
- How often should I book?
- Kickstart with 6–10 visits, usually 1–2 times per week. Then maintenance every 4–8 weeks. One visit can refresh; a series builds the lift.
- Does it hurt? Is there downtime?
- Almost none. Some clients feel a light tingle. No redness that keeps you home. You can go straight back into a Chicago day.
- Who should skip this treatment?
- Anyone with a pacemaker or implanted electronics, epilepsy, pregnancy, or metal in the treatment zone. After injectables, wait for your injector’s clearance and tell me the date.
- How is this different from the Advanced Customized Facial at $295?
- Customized is a 90-minute full facial that may include microcurrent as one step. This Signature Treatment is $250 / 45 min of microcurrent only. Pick customized if you also need a deep cleanse and mask; pick this page for the lift.
